The Sweetest Thing

It’s the time of year when sweets abound. We’re literally surrounded by pretty pastries and over the top, shimmering decor. It’s a bridal winter wonderland, and who can blame us that over here at ShutterBooth, we’ve developed something of a sweet tooth?

You don’t have to tell many brides that planning a wedding is hard work. Detail after detail is carefully planned, all for those few hours when everything turns to magic.

And if there’s one element of the wedding everyone will not only be talking about, but enjoying, it’s the cake!

There are so many options when it comes to wedding cakes that it can become a little overwhelming.

From custom, sculpted cakes to classic icings, to traditional toppers and tastings . . .  there’s a lot to consider.

So what’s a bride to do when confronted with the seemingly endless options available?

1. Keep your ultimate vision in mind.

There’s nothing more confusing for wedding guests than to show up to a wedding and to be unsure of the theme. Sophisticated elegance matched with zany contemporary accents can be hard to pull off. It’s important when constructing each different facet of the event, to keep the overall goal in mind. Are you going for country-side organic whimsy or chick contemporary minimalism. Don’t let all the options weigh you down. Narrowing down  what you’re looking for at the get-go of each new design element will help to keep things focused, and make for just the right look on your big day.

2. Don’t say yes to something just because it’s the fad that year.

Styles shift within the wedding market from year to year. The “it” color, the extravagance of floral arrangements, styles of wedding gown…it’s a shifting wave that will never stay still. That’s why it’s so important to take a step back from what’s “in” and figure out what it is that you truly like for your big day. Because when it’s all said and done, the wedding should represent the personality of the bride and groom, not the personalities of that year’s designers.

3. Taste Matters

Let’s just put it out there. There’s nothing more disappointing than a cake that looks like heaven and tastes like cardboard. Don’t let being in a hurry keep you from finding a cake that tastes as beautiful as it looks.
