Hey ShutterFans, You Know What It Is…

Hey shutter fan’s!

It’s Harmony catching you up on this past two weekends fabulous events. I know you missed me!

On Friday May 14th Arianna and I worked the St. Mathews Catholic school fundraiser carnival. It was a bright Sunny Friday afternoon when we  arrived, and quickly found our location specification conveniently located adjacent to the duck tank. Volunteers/Vendors supplied a wide array of foods such as: pancit with a side of lumpia, funnel cake fries, CHANELLO‘S PIZZA, snow cones, cotton candy, freshly made baked goods,  hot dogs, & of course hamburgers. The large foot ball field was littered with thrilling carnival rides like an air walk and a spiny roller coaster type ride. Music was provided by a live band and inside they put on an endless bingo game. The rambunctious children were amazed by  SHUTTERBOOTH and continued to come back, even after the sun set.

Saturday may 15th :

Arianna represented for shutter booth at the serene HERMITAGE MUSEUM and GARDENS to celebrate the Dvorsak/Harden wedding. The guests were encouraged to recline on chic black couches facing the water after nibbling on a delectable entrée provided by FARM FRESH. Swaying gently in the breeze were intimate family portraits hanging from grand trees. Each guest was enamored with SHUTTERBOOTH, & happily posed in celebration.

On the 11th floor of the cavalier hotel in Virginia overlooking the Atlantic Ocean we celebrated the Hawkin’s wedding. Music entertainment was provided by TIDEWATER DJ’s.

On the same day we celebrated the union of the Dixon & Shultz’s at the yacht club @ marina shores. Shutter booth was delighted to be there as per usual.

Friday May 18th

Kristi & I were pleasured to be at the Yacht club to celebrate the commitment of Sara & Justin.

Ivan from ARCH ENTERTAINMENT provided the music experience which was phenomenal. Each guest munched on fresh entrée’s catered by CUISINE & COMPANY, and the purple color scheme went exceptionally well with each candlestick – chandelier centerpieces.  It was wonderful to see how excited all of the guests were to see SHUTTERBOOTH nestled in our little corner.

Saturday May 19th

Ok shutter fans you need to buckle your seat and brace your self for this one:

Jaquelynn (shutter mama), Arianna ( Shutter Juggernaut), & I rode tripped it down to a tiny town in North Carolina called Mooresville to celebrate the Kress/Montgomery wedding.

Pulling into CARRIGAN FARMS we first noticed the picturesque corn fields and weeping willow trees outlining the side of the road. We soon discovered the most breath taking wedding venue you could imagine. Located at the bottom of a steep hill, surrounded by rugged rock formations, next to a quarry, sat the reception area. At the beginning of the long trek down hill there was a surf board for each guest to autograph,  followed by signs leading down labeled with each vow, to the right of this sat the buffet tables, corn hole boards, and bocce ball area. Keeping with the easy going theme each table was named after one of the bride/grooms favorite bands like ; DMB, beastie boys, sublime, bob Marley, cold play, incubus, & modest mouse. They even provided a kids activity table and an I spy game with disposable cameras. After the intimate ceremony guests were encouraged to sip on the signature drink which was jungle punch served in mason jars with the guests of honor on each one. After a delectable meal of steak, pasta salad, and an array of freshly sautéed vegetables provided by CARRIGAN FARMS CATTERING, the bride and groom participated in a traditional Persian wedding tradition. DJ EXPRESS – Jim Cook quickly got the crowd hyphee to his broad range of music and encouraged guests to visit us in our shaded nook to try on ridiculous props and sign the scrap book. The Crowd embraced the booth and we had a never ending line of guests and an amazing array of photos to show the proof.  This was by far the most spectacularly unique wedding I have ever had the privilege to be a part of & I was honored to be there. Memories of this magical evening will resonate in my mind forever.

This same evening Jaquelynn went on to celebrate the Harkins/Barber wedding at THE PINES COUNTRY & GOLF CLUB. The Groom, Christian, Spent the last few minutes prior to being married making sure every  aspect of the reception was up to par for his gorgeous bride (can I get an awww). After the ceremony guests flowed into cocktail hour held separately for the big reveal of the ballroom, which was decorated in pink and silver with matching tables.  Catering was provided by the country club and while enjoying their meals guests listened to the smooth rhythm of Frank Sinatra. During the first dance the newly weds swayed peacefully to “I died everyday waiting for you” – Thousand years & Of course the easy going bride rocked silver sparkly tom’s (Fresh to death). All of this was chronicled by PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRISTINE who was super cute. The Bride saw SHUTTERBOOTH two years ago at a friends wedding and was all to thrilled to be a guest and enjoy the booth more than once.. Their parents also joined in the repeat offenders fun. The highlight of picture taking was when pop got in the booth & exited flustered requesting that his blood pressure be checked. SAY WHOAAA.

Back Home in Virginia beach Charles and Matt held it down at the SEA CASTLE INN at the ocean front to celebrate Katy & Kyle’s wedding. The reception/ wedding area was delightfully spacious taking up an entire floor with a balcony! After the ceremony which was held on the dance floor near the reception area the guests ate a fine dinner made by LEXI GORMAN. Then they jammed out to LADY BUG PRODUCTIONS ( Elizabeth Nash) who threw down some awesome beats.  One of the highlights of the evening ( besides shutter booth of course) was a ginourmous cupcake display made up of tons of chocolate & red velvet tiers, some even topped with bacon. Yummy. Photography props go out to PRIMO EVENTS who didn’t miss a detail. Charles and Mathew held down the booth encouraging guests to let loose, even breaking the record and getting 22 people in the booth! “While the booths a shakin’ pictures keep on takin” – Charles J

Sunday may 20th

Kristi worked the Jam out with your Clam Out! At LUNASEA at The Virginia Beach Ocean Front. This was a birthday event held in a casual and fun atmosphere. A buffet of food and signature orange crushes were provided by the venue. Music entertainment was provided by RYAN HEINZ & JONNIE CHONG who were both guitarists and vocalists. ( AWESOME!) Towards the end of the evening the birthday girl was presented with a huge “cake” with a man inside. SCANDALOUS!

Half of the party present was from the Hawkins wedding Kristi worked the week before so she was familiar with the crowd and effortless reeled them into the booth.

Arianna, Bradley, and Scott were proud to be apart of The Matt Mills One Fight Fund charity benefit. They spent Sunday Fun day at CP SHUCKERS on pacific ave at the ocean front. They enjoyed performances by CHEAP THRILLS  and HEYDAY HOLLIGAN. Free food & unbeatable drink specials along with SHUTTERBOOTH were the highlights of the evening.

Tuesday May 22nd

Bradley cozied up to our closest vendors at the 757 WEDDING PROFFESSIONALS open house. This was an all around eventful night that provided a great opportunity for us to get to know the 757 WEDDING PROFFESSIONALS.

Greetings, ShutterFans!!

Greetings shutter fans!

Harmony here filling you in with this past weekends spectacular events.

On Friday the lovely Arianna road tripped it down to the OBX to celebrate the Huston/Gerhard wedding. Trisha and Adam originally had a venue booked in Pennsylvania where they live, but decided to switch it up and head to the OBX. Luckily, DJ Dan Bucciarelli with tailored entertainment was down for a mini vacay and made the trip to celebrate with the adorable couple in a intimate beach wedding, put together by Wendy the wonderful coordinator for the Sanderling. The wedding was catered by the Sanderling, and the delicious cake was created by great cakes. The venue timed the event to occur perfectly with the sun setting; which was a perfect time for the photographer, Tina Jay to capture the bride and groom. Not long after the sun went down glow sticks were brought out to set the mood. All the while shutter booth was going full swing!

We even received a lovely bit of feed back:

Thank you so much Jacquelyn! The photo-booth was a big hit and soooo much fun! I do glad we did it! Thank you for all your help!!

Trisha

That same night Oscar Smith high school was throwing down until the early morning (literally) at their after prom party! Each student had a thrilling time trying on all of our festive props, and jamming out to the DJ from Astro. There were a ton of delightful activities provided for the students like air walks, face painting, sumo wrestling, and a hypnotist show. Catering was provided by chanellos pizza and chick fil a. It was so wonderful seeing the students and teachers come together to celebrate!

Saturday Evening Tim and Jennifer were united in holy matrimony on the intimate outdoor deck of the shoreline room at Marina Shores. With the sun shining and a gentle breeze blowing, the weather could not have been more perfect. The guests transitioned easily indoors after the ceremony to the smooth beats of DJ Ivan @ arch entertainment. Each guests name was laid out on a nifty wine cork name holders where they could easily find their seats around lovely black and white themed tables adorned with red roses. Dinner was prepared by cuisine & Co, followed by red velvet cake by incredible edibles. YUMMY! Of course shutter booth was throwing down with feather boas!

On Sunday we were pleased to be apart of the Premier Bride Wedding Expo hosted by show bride. We didn’t let the gloomy weather get us down, and had an incredible time meeting with glowing brides.

All in all it was a spectacular weekend x100

Until next time!

Let your shutters shine,

HarmonyJ

Congrats to our Facebook winner!

For a long time we at ShutterBooth Hampton Roads have racked our brains trying to figure out how to drive more traffic to our Facebook fan page. We finally figured out that if we just gave away a ShutterBooth it would get us some new fans. We went from slightly under 200 fans to just over 2400! Our fans did a great job recruiting friends and family to vote for their picture to win the ShutterBooth. The cream rose to the top and in the end, after a long hard fight, Denell and her fiancé Dennis won the ShutterBooth for their June wedding at the Watertable in Virginia Beach.

Denell is very much a go getter and self starter, not just in Facebook contests but in life, as evident from her asking Dennis about their marriage. Good thing for the both of them, she applied the same attitude to go out and win our contest.

Dennis and Denell first saw ShutterBooth at an event at the Suffolk Executive Airport. Denell looked into having us for their wedding, but ShutterBooth just wasn’t in the budget. She was an existing fan to our Facebook page and when we put the call out to our fans, her interest was piqued.

She started collecting votes the typical way, by using the built in sharing button via Facebook. There was also a way to share the story to Facebook and Twitter, which she did. Denell quickly realized that it would take more than this to win her ShutterBooth so she started networking in different ways. She sent personal emails out to friends and family with detailed instructions on what to click and how to vote. Her friends helped spread the word by forwarding her email to their friends and family. She also utilized some Facebook groups she was a part of to enlist votes from as far away as Malta. And last but certainly not least, her cousin created a Facebook event called “Vote for Denell” which anyone could share with all their Facebook friends too. Denell thinks that this group accounted for almost 20% of her votes.
Denell put in the work needed to get the most votes. Some contestants didn’t like that it turned out to be a popularity contest, but that is what it was all along. We’re extremely excited that Denell was voted ‘Most Popular’ and can’t wait for her and her fun loving friends to get into ShutterBooth at their wedding. Congrats guys!

More October/November Events

Hey shutter fans! It’s Harmony here wrapping up October’s events and kicking off November’s.
Starting with the Sweet haven Christian Academy’s Rewards carnival which took place on Friday October 28th 2011. The day started off a little dreary but, the children, parents, and staff were in such high spirits I hardly noticed. The carnival was held on the soccer field which was quickly transformed into a child’s dream event. The first thing I noticed was the smell of the delicious food provided by church volunteers which included: homemade hotdogs and hamburgers cooking over a giant char grill located next to a popcorn, snow cone, and cotton candy machine. What is a carnival with out bounce houses? This one had 10 and a rock wall! Of course Ryan the balloon guy was on hand to craft the most creative detailed balloon creatures I have seen thus far two that stuck were cookie monster and a smurfette. The children were so surprised when the petting zoo arrived with llama’s, ponies, and chicken’s. I was with shutter booth right in the middle of all of the festivities to capture all of the smiles!

The next day Saturday October 2011 Arianna and I had the honor of working the 2nd annual survive Norfolk. Despite the frigid cold there was a tremendous amount of people both zombies and humans who tuned out to show their support. The event was organized by urban playground with the goal of bringing the 757 community together and judging by the turn out it was successful. Vendors included blue horseshoe tattoo, silent disco, and tasty sandwich samples provided by Jimmy John’s. Shutter booth was in the midst of all the zombie mayhem to capture all of the realistic zombie costumes. We had such a fun time! Especially since we survived mauahahaha J

On Sunday October 30th Arianna hosted the Hermitage annual Halloween festival at the BEAUTIFUL Hermitage foundation museum and gardens. On a sunny clear day tons of families from the surrounding neighborhoods dressed in their best Halloween costumes turned out to show support for the hermitage foundation. Face painting and balloon characters were provided by none other than Ryan the balloon guy which is the second time shutter booth ran into him that weekend. Yeah he’s good. Food and refreshments such as hot dogs, popcorn, and cotton candy were provided by a generous ODU fraternity. Entertainment featured a puppet show and tours of the Hermitage museum. All in it was an Eventful Halloween weekend!

On Friday November 4, 2011 Arianna and I had the pleasure of sharing in Brent’s surprise 40th birthday party in the attic at the Waterman’s. Upon arrival I was in awe of the venue’s tasteful details which included stained glass window panes and ornate crystal palm tree chandelier’s all overlooking a stunning view of the Atlantic ocean. In the center of each table held a custom center piece adorned with a single fresh vining flower placed in a vase of water accentuated with the vibrant glow of led lights. The party officially started when Brent arrived to a room full of his closest friends and family who jumped up from around the corner to surprise him on his special day. After chowing down on all of the waterman’s signature entrée’s and appetizers DJ Joe Fu dropped the beat . Eventually there were two giant costume boxes brought out filled with fun hats, boas, glasses, and wigs each guest chose something to wear and proceeded to dance the night away. In between scrap booking and running the booth Arianna and I danced along by the booth. It was an amazing party and I feel so fortunate to have contributed in the festivities!

Recent October Events

We have a huge shout out to all of the October weddings and events since out last ShutterUpdate.
Perhaps our most festive event, The Dugan Wedding captured all of the best traits of fall on October
8th. Hosted by the Virginia Beach Yacht Club and Black Iris Events, this autumnal celebration
joined Crystal and Dalton with some of the most original moments yet. Halloween fever began for
Shutterbooth at the Dugan wedding which exhibited classy pumpkin décor, fall colored center pieces,
and an amazing skull ice sculpture complete with a misty fog. Yes, you read it right, Ice Art made an
impression with the piece which captured the personalities of Crystal and Dalton perfectly. Congrats to
the lovely couple!

The following weekend was full of exciting events beginning with a celebration of grandeur on the 15th,
Hannah and Zachary’s B’Nai Mitzvah. Decked out in red carpets and velvet ropes, the Virginia Beach
Hilton Oceanfront was transformed into a Hollywood event with all the right trimmings. Hannah and
Zachary celebrated with all of their closest friends and family with ShutterBooth, Astro DJ’s, and yet
another fantastic piece by Ice Art, a huge ice guitar positioned at the main entrance. Tons of party
favors were given, along with a popcorn stand and smoothie station which set this party apart from all
others! Thanks for letting ShutterBooth help make your B’Nai Mitzvah even more memorable!

Just down the street in Fort Story, a beautiful beach wedding for Stephanie and Richard captured the
last of good weather before the winter chill. Complete with sea shells and starfish, the Edelen wedding
catered to a navy decorated guest list who managed to break the booth record by fitting 20 people in
the booth! Stephanie and Richard enjoyed their first dance to Kenny Chesney’s, “Me and You” and also
enjoyed their tier of cupcakes together as the night went on. ShutterBooth was very excited to be a part
of your celebration; Congratulations to the both of you!

Sunday the 16th was a day of Outer Banks Weddings, as ShutterBooth Hampton Roads traveled down to
the beaches of North Carolina. The beach off of the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk held the ceremony
where Courtney and John said their I Do’s before taking the party up to the pier house. Simply Posh
decorated the beach scene and made a tier of glittering sugar and cake pops with two customized cake
pops decorated for the Courtney and John. It was such a treat! ShutterBooth and its prop box were
a huge hit for everyone to enjoy, along with the personalized scrapbook custom made by our own
ShutterBooth hosts. We were glad to be there on your special day, congrats!

After enjoying the beach view in Kitty Hawk, our ShutterStars headed to the Duck Country Club for the
Nelson wedding that same night. Here, Judy and Bob celebrated tying the knot and danced their first
dance as husband and wife to “At Last.” A big hit at the reception was the Michael Jackson Wii that
was set up on the dance floor in which mass participation of “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” rocked the night
away. It was truly an amazing sight that everyone should get a chance to experience. Thanks for rocking
our night Judy and Bob, and congratulations!

Congrats Heather and Mark!

Shutterbooth Hampton Roads was excited to travel to Mooresville, North Carolina this past week to kick off our series of October Weddings. The Lucky Couple? Heather Noe and Mark Dutton; they tied the knot in the quant town of Mooresville, becoming newlyweds in the early afternoon of October 1st. The Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville held the reception where the lovely pair danced their first dance as a married couple to “At Last.” The catering, DJs, candy bar, and photo booth made their special day beyond ordinary as guests of all ages were able to celebrate a momentous occasion for their loved ones and friends. Join us in congratulating Heather and Mark, and we look forward to more weddings to come as the fall season continues to bring couples together with ShutterBooth Hampton Roads!

Letter from a satisfied ShutterClient

We received this email from a ShutterClient whose daughters wedding ShutterBooth was lucky enough to be at recently and wanted to share!

Hi Jaquelynn,

The photo booth was the hit of the wedding! I was surprised at the number of people who hadn’t seen this at a previous wedding. Everyone from the youngest kids to the oldest adults got into the booth at least once, I think, and quite a few took more than one set of photos! Your staff were very professional and a joy to work with. They arrived and had everything set up right on time and there were just no problems at all the entire evening. The props they brought really made the pictures! The photo book they put together that night was so much more fun than a standard guest book! We laughed and laughed the next day while we looked through all of the pictures–an immediate reminder of all the fun from the night before. We used your idea, too, of using photo strip frames as the wedding favors and they were very popular. And, of course, you were great with helping us get the “save the date” photo strips set up.

From the “save the dates” to the wedding favors to the photo/guest book, you were just an invaluable source for the wedding. I will heartily recommend you to everyone I know and hope your business continues to grow! Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Kathi S.
