Project Ed Bear…

When Ede Bittle was an 11-year old child, he broke his leg playing football. A parent’s nightmare began for his mom, Susan Summerville, when the doctors told her bone tumors were found. Fortunately, Ede’s tumors were non-cancerous. However, during the process, Ede came into contact with children of all ages undergoing cancer treatment and he wanted to do something for the children.

Fifteen years later, Project Ed Bear is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization with a mission of meeting the needs of pediatric oncology patients. They provide a bear to each patient diagnosed with cancer at Akron Children’s Medical Center. The organization also provides holiday parties, a party to celebrate the end of chemotherapy, camp CHOPS and college scholarships. This is all accomplished through one annual event, the Project Ed Bear Auction. The auction this year was held on November 30 and I have to say that I was overwhelmed with all of the warm hearts that filled the room at the Radisson.

We were fortunate enough to be a part of that magical evening! It was such a great time, with everyone feeling so generous, and leaving the party with smiles on their faces. It was great working with Susan and Ede!
